RREUSE is a European organization which represents national and regional networks of social enterprises in the EU which engage in reuse, repair and recycling activities. Currently, RREUSE represents some 77 000 employees and over 60 000 persons who are reintegrated in the labor market from 30 member organizations active in 16 EU Member States. RREUSE is actively involved in shaping EU environmental legislation, particularly with regard to policies for products and waste, to establish the best possible legal requirements to foster the prevention of waste generation, reuse, repair and recycling.
All RREUSE members are active in waste management and at the same time offer significant employment and training opportunities to persons were removed from the labor market. As a result, RREUSE promotes creating a horizontal and integrated policy on sustainable waste management and focuses on creating green jobs. Below are listed actions carried out by RREUSE which are aimed to extend reuse and repair activity across Europe:
- representing and promoting reuse, repair and recycling at European and international level, in order to press for including environmental and social objectives in EU legislation;
- fostering and strengthening cooperation among its members to promote best practices, research, development and partnerships;
- exchanging information among its members on national and local policies as well as the current legal and tax framework.
As part of its activities, RREUSE aims to promote sustainable development equally targeting all three pillars of sustainability. The secretariat of RREUSE in Brussels is the focal point of contact and cooperation of the networks that compose it.
